Cake Charms - A Memorable Gift for Bridesmaids

Often times we hear so much about the "bridezilla" demanding that everyone and everything be about her, we forget that there are future brides out there, that truly appreciate their family and closest friends being a part of their special day. Even with all of the wedding planning excitement, these brides realize that her friends and family have taken on not only a huge time commitment to be a part of the wedding, but also a huge financial commitment. There is the purchase of the bridesmaid's dress, chipping in for the bridal shower and bachelorette party, as well as travel and a wedding gift. Many brides purchase jewelry for their bridal party to wear with their bridesmaid dress, but many also want to give their bridal party something a bit more meaningful from the wedding festivities; something to remind their bridesmaids of their bond of friendship during this special time in the bride's life.

In the south, we celebrate a Victorian tradition of cake charms in the wedding or bridal shower cake. The charms are under the bottom layer of the cake, attached to ribbons on the outside of the cake. Before cutting the cake, the bridesmaids, and sometimes other close female friends that are not part of the bridal party, pull one of the ribbons from the cake. Each charm held significance and foretold the bridesmaid’s future. Sometimes color- coded satin ribbons are attached to each charm so that single, married, and junior bridesmaids may pull charms with appropriate messages. Along with their symbolism, wedding charms also make for unique gifts. Bridesmaids may use them as pendants or wear them on charm bracelets. More importantly, they are a reminder of a very special time in a bride’s life. You can find wedding cake charms in bridal shops or catalogs. Personalize to Exude Luxury for Your Wedding Day

This weekend, at the Houston Bridal Extravaganza, Nadine Moon of Who Made the Cake and Select Jewelers, created a sweet luxury that had everyone in awe. This cake had a hefty price tag of $1,400,000.00 and may be out of rich for some, but you can add a touch a bling to your to wedding cake for a lot less.

Consider using brooches, rhinestones or colored stones to add the wow factor to your cake, bouquet, attire or even to your invitations. Happy Birthday!

I am so excited and proud to say that Coco Trendy has been consistent as a blog for one year. It has been a labor of love and it has been hard, but we made it happen. A big thank you goes out to our dedicated followers, event business supporters and fans. We could not have done this without your support and encouragement. There were times where we reinvented ourselves and went back and forth but our fans stayed loyal and we so appreciate you for that. There are so many blogs out there and I thank you for choosing to check by and see what our trendy take is on the subjects of wedding and event planning and coordination.

This year has been truly exciting for not only the blog, Coco Trendy but also for the management company ~ Alpha Prosperity Event Management. For the first time since the official birth of the special event planning and coordination division, our event management company was selected to receive the WeddingWire 2010 Bride’s Choice Awards™ for Wedding Planner and Coordination! Trunk Show in Houston

As a Houston area wedding coordinator, I don't always get to be involved in the search for the fabulous wedding gown. Most brides have already accomplished that feat by the time I come into the picture. But on occasion I get to tag along to keep things on budget and to give an opinion about whether or not the dress will work with the overall theme or design that the bride has chosen.

If you are not sure about the type of dress you want or what design elements will look good on you, try attending a few trunk shows to help in your decision making. Trunk shows offer a great opportunity to see what's gorgeous and new by some of your favorite designers.

Found Treasure While on Vacation

Well, I'm back from my vacation and what can I say? It was a wonderful birthday celebration cruise and I had a great time. I really could have stayed another week. We flew into San Juan, P.R. and boarded a ship for a seven day cruise to St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, and St. Kitts. All of the islands were beautiful, the water was gorgeous and the weather was outstanding. Just thought I would share a few of the photos from my great birthday celebration.

While I was there, I found a great venue for a destination wedding. (After all, a wedding and event coordinator never stops working. We are always looking for new venue or design element.) Stony Hill is privately owned home built high on a ridge in the north of St Lucia. Below are some photos from there website. Surrounded by one and a half acres of tropical gardens it has beautiful panoramic views. It is a perfect setting for any event but I think it would be a great choice for an intimate wedding and reception. As mentioned, the home is privately owned but there are two bedrooms available for overnight accommodations. I did spend some time at this beautiful home and I don't think there are enough pictures that really speak to it's quiet beauty and gorgeous views.

October Bride Celebrates "Pink" in Big Way

Meet Mollie & Lynwood

On October 10, 2009, I got the wonderful opportunity to coordinate this special wedding for a very special bride and her handsome groom. Mollie is a breast cancer survivor and it was very important for her to celebrate this in a big way, and what better way than on your wedding day. The nuptials and celebration were held at the beautiful Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation. Hope you enjoy just a few personal photos of this wonderful wedding.

The inspiration for the big event was "pink and the breast cancer awareness symbols."
