Developing A Theme for Your Baby Shower

In my search for baby shower inspiration I have run across some oh so cute party designs. When developing a theme for your baby shower, there are so many choices and the sky is the limit. You don't have to stick with the traditional concepts. Have a conversation with the mom-to-be, to see if there are colors or characters she may prefer or have in mind. It is really helpful when the theme or colors for the shower flow with the decorating ideas for the nursery.

To help get those creative juices flowing, see how many concepts or theme ideas you can come up with from my above statement, "The Sky is the Limit." A good start may be to create invitations or gifts with an airplane or cloud motif or you can include elements like a sun or rainbow as well. What other suggestions or concepts can you come up with?

If you need additional ideas, check out a few of my favorite blogs at Cutest Baby Shower Ideas.com, Tastefully Entertaining or Swanky Tables Blog.com. I can't wait to see what your creative inspiration juices will lead you to create.

We're Going to the Super Bowl.

The New Orleans Saints are going to the Super Bowl, yeah. Forgive me for slipping into my native dialect but I can't tell you how excited I am about the Saints going to the Super Bowl. After so many years of, "we'll get there next year, or we will go all the way, next year," Saints fans can say that our "next year" has finally come. And you know there is going to be a party.

The teams have been determined and the Big Game is less than two weeks away! How will you be enjoying the Super Bowl celebration? How about hosting your own Super Bowl party? It's not as difficult as you think. According to the folks at Hallmark Cards, Inc., Super Bowl parties are one of the top at-home party events of the year. Super Bowl parties have become much more than a gathering of football lovers. In fact, many people attending these parties don't love football as much as they love the excuse to just get together with friends.

Here are a few tips to make your Super Bowl party a super success:

  • Food is important - let me repeat that. Food is important. Make sure you have lots of the finger foods that people have come to expect during football games. A buffet menu is definately the way to go. That way your guests can eat, talk and move about your party with ease. A simple menu of hot wings, chips & dip, pizza, etc. A New Orleans Super Bowl party will include shrimp poboys, catfish fillets, a pot of gumbo, and maybe some muffalatas.

  • Make sure you have lots to drink. To keep it simple, soda and beer will do. If you are doing a New Orleans type Super Bowl Party - Hurricanes and Daquiris might be a great addition, along with anything stronger if your party guest can drink responsibly.

  • Don't prepare recipes are attempt endeavors that will keep you locked in the kitchen all evening. You want to enjoy your party as well.

  • Make sure there are several viewing areas or televisions around the party area. That way everyone has a great view of the game.

  • Decorations are not as necessary but if you feel compelled to add some festivity to your locale, anything with a football theme, with the team colors will work. Of course, a New Orleans Super Bowl party can only have one color scheme and that's black and gold baby.

Whatever food, decor or activity you may decide to include, just make sure to enjoy the moment and as we say in New Orleans, "Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler."

The "Who Dat Nation" will be in the house.

"Geaux Saints!"

Impressive Designs Found at The Special Event 2010 in New Orleans

I just returned from the The Special Event Show and Conference 2010 in New Orleans and I must say that the investment I made in my wedding and event planning business was well worth it. I made so many great contacts and got to see some truly awesome design work. The workshops were very informative and I can't wait to start implementing some of the great tidbits and advice that I picked up along the way.

I attended the famous Wedding Luncheon and Gallery and was completely blown away by the designs exhibited by some very talented wedding and floral designers. My favorite was the gallery design exhibited by Sasha Souza of Sasha Souza Events. She worked with an element of wood as her inspiration and the end result was truly amazing. I took a few photos to share with you guys.

There was some amazing talent at this conference and trade show so stay tuned in the coming weeks for more personal photos from this great event.

My Wedding Trend Favorites of 2009

As you know, 2009 is about to come to a close but I think there are a few trends from 2009 that just may travel into the new year. You know the saying, "Everything old is new again." I also like the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Some of my favorite trends from 2009 that I hope to see in 2010 -

* Bird Cage Veils - Talk about chic and trendy. I just can't say enough about this beautiful headpiece, and BirdcageVeils.com has some of the best I have seen. Melody Ginn has done a great job with these beautiful veils. You can find her at BridalVeils.com

* Backyard Weddings - Interested in this trend, check out our previous posts, here.

* Landscape Decor - A woodsy topiary used as centerpiece, tree bark or greenery used as centerpieces or place setting decor, vases filled with simple blooms and greenery.

* Groom's Cake - Remember the gray armadillo from Steel Magnolias? This southern tradition has evolved into a way for the bride to do something special for her groom.

* The Dress - Ultimately, you are who people came to see, not the dress. Pick the dress you feel best in, the one that makes you shine even more.

* Favors with Meaning - There is nothing worse than spending money on favors and finding that most of your guests won't enjoy them, let alone remember your wedding when they look at it.

* Dances that Wow- the popularity of all the dancing shows and dance studios have prompted brides and grooms to create their perfect first dance as a married couple.

*Hire a Day of Coordinator - Hire a professional wedding coordinator for the final weeks before the wedding. They are the experts at making sure those last-minute details get done, and you can't beat the great pair of extra hands that come with a wealth of knowledge and "quick-fixes" to boot.

Trunk Show in Houston

As a Houston area wedding coordinator, I don't always get to be involved in the search for the fabulous wedding gown. Most brides have already accomplished that feat by the time I come into the picture. But on occasion I get to tag along to keep things on budget and to give an opinion about whether or not the dress will work with the overall theme or design that the bride has chosen.

If you are not sure about the type of dress you want or what design elements will look good on you, try attending a few trunk shows to help in your decision making. Trunk shows offer a great opportunity to see what's gorgeous and new by some of your favorite designers.

So if you are looking for that special dress for your special day, here's your chance to get a head start on seeing the top designs of 2010 up close and in person.
